Renée Yemma {The Calm Mama} bio picture
  • Hi…I’m Renée!

I’m a mama (writer, teacher, foodie, wife, lover of music, color and all things zen) who never, ever thought I was creative. Well, enter motherhood and I’m a completely changed woman. When I was pregnant with my daughter, my creative sparks began to explode. I reconnected with my love for photography in a way that helps create calm in my busy mama life AND I’m now a doodler (or shall I say, kid again!) who uses crayons, colored pencils and paints to disconnect from my hectic-to-do-list day that runs my thoughts on a daily basis. But most importantly, I’ve fallen in love with my camera, which helps me live a more calm and present mama life.

Because of my new relationship with my creative side (it’s taken me some time to get to this place!), I’ve created this space to document my days of learning photography all while trying to stay sane while living my new mama life. I’m a newbie in the photography world with a dream of taking it to a professional level one day. I consider myself a candid photographer (I think my journalism skills shine here) because I love those everyday moments. The authentic ones, ya know, the way life is happening around us in the moment, rather than set up with a smile, and I tell those moments right here with my "photography journey" story. Woohoo! Learn more about me.

{foodie LOVES friday} Quesadilla + Black Bean Mango Salsa

Back in high school, my friends and I used to frequent RJ Gators a lot.  It was a fun, sports bar like restaurant. You may have heard of it? One of the best features about this restaurant was that you could pay to have a pie thrown in someone’s face for their birthday.  Yeah, we…

Why Doodle?

If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen my doodle break posts. I never, ever thought I was creative. You see, my mother is an artist. She painted my daughter’s letters (shown below) for her room.  Amazing, right? I cried when I saw what she painted because I thought it…

{foodie LOVES friday} Antipasto “Lasagna Style” Salad

I’m French (well, not 100%, but my Dad is) and I’m a LOVER of all things Italian.  The food.  My husband. The food (oh, did I say that already). When I married my 100% Italian husband, I was pretty excited about all the Italian food I was going to get to try (and, of course,…
