Renée Yemma {The Calm Mama} bio picture
  • Hi…I’m Renée!

    I’m a mama (writer, teacher, foodie, wife, lover of music, color and all things zen) who never, ever thought I was creative. Well, enter motherhood and I’m a completely changed woman. When I was pregnant with my daughter, my creative sparks began to explode. I reconnected with my love for photography in a way that helps create calm in my busy mama life AND I’m now a doodler (or shall I say, kid again!) who uses crayons, colored pencils and paints to disconnect from my hectic-to-do-list day that runs my thoughts on a daily basis. But most importantly, I’ve fallen in love with my camera and color, which helps me live a more calm and present mama life.

    Now, just because the title up above says I'm a calm mama, I want you to know that I'm not 100% calm and I don't have it all figured out. Before having my daughter, I wasn't doing anything that involved paints or a camera. Now, because of my new relationship with my creative side (it's taken me some to get to this place!) I'm happy to say that I'm SO much calmer than ever before. Do I have days that I'm pulling my hair out and wishing I was super calm in the moment....YES! But, now, I have the tools to help me NOT stay in that hectic place for too long. And, that's why I'm here...to share my journey to creating more calm in my busy mama life with you. Woohoo! Learn more about me.

{Doodle Calm Thoughts: 15/21} Circles + Passionate Changes

{I’ve made a commitment to put ME (yes, ME!!) first on my “to-do” list so I can calm my thoughts while tapping into my creativity for the next 21 days. Read why I’m doing this here.  And if you wanna join me in the calming fun, come on over to my Facebook page and share what’s happening for you and post pictures of your doodles, too!}

Day 15: Circles + Passionate Changes

OK! So, I know I’m a little late on this one, since my last doodle post was on November 10.:)

The Thanksgiving holiday krept up on me FAST, but I did manage to do this doodle the weekend before leaving.

But, the real reason for the break is that so much inner “stuff” has been going on with me since starting this doodle 21 day activity.

Inner “stuff” meaning ~ I’ve missed my camera!

Yes, I’m taking pictures of my doodles so I can document them here, but what this has taught me is how much I LOVE photography.

The doodles have helped to connect to this FEELING that photography brings.  It’s SO hard to explain, but all I know is I get tingly inside and I literally can be in happy tears at any moment when thinking of it – I’ve finally connected with my passion!!

I’ve spent months writing a new program and then I connected with doodling and then on Day 14, I realized that photography feeds my heart and soul like nothing else. (Well, besides my daughter and my family and friends).:)

Yes, I love doodling, but I REALLY LOVE photography!

So I put my colored pencils down and picked up my camera more.  It FEELS amazing!

I documented Thanksgiving Day with my iphone camera and LOVED every second of it.

Here’s a few from the day:

Then on my drive home (12 hours – we went to Florida!) I was reading one of my favorite magazines, Artful Blogging, and I was so inspired and filled with JOY because I knew once getting home I was going to change the design of my blog to align with more of who I am.

Before, my blog represented my favorite doodle colors and my love for simple, crisp and colorful, but it was missing my biggest alignment of all – photography.

When C was only months old, I started a photography blog on blogger.  I wanted to document my learning of photography.

At that time I was also going back and forth on whether to just give up my nutrition business and dive straight into photography – my indecisiveness got the best of me (for way too long!).

So now, after doodling for 14 days, I know what my direction is here – photography and inspiring calm mama living with a creative twist (doodling and painting).

So from now on, I will be documenting my love (and learning) of photography all while trying to live a calm mama life with my writing and my photos.

I’m SO, SO EXCITED!

It FEELS OH-SO-RIGHT!!

And, with that, I’ve signed up for a 31 day e-course, called Picture the Holidays by Tracey Clark and Paper Coterie.  Each day I’ll be given a prompt and will be creating my holiday season through my camera lens and documenting it here.

I’ve already done days 1 and 2 and I’m having SO.MUCH.FUN!  And, honestly, it just feels SO GOOD to be taking pictures and playing with my camera again on a more consistent basis!:)

Day 1:  Holding on to Gratitude  - SO grateful that even though my 2-year-old throws the biggest toddler tantrums that she ALWAYS…ALWAYS…finds joy in the littlest things around the house (and radiates that to me, too!!).  She’s talking on the phone – a wii remote – which is way more fun then her toys!:)

Day 2: Reframing the Season - being OK that this is the 2nd year I haven’t put any ornaments on our Christmas tree because of our fun loving (who LOVES to throw things!) toddler.  Just having the beautiful red, white and green lights is beautiful enough (and seeing Lil’ C’s eyes light up with a BIG smile while saying “trickmas treat” (translation – christmas tree) is a great reminder of this beauty!

It’s free, so if you wanna join in the picture holiday fun, check it out here!

I hope you had a wholesome Thanksgiving (if you celebrate) and I hope your holidays are off to the best start!

Until next time…

{life is PASSION}
