{I've made a commitment to put ME (yes, ME!!) first on my "to-do" list so I can calm my thoughts while tapping into my creativity for the next 21 days. Day 7: Calm Curly Color Painting Fun

As soon as C went down for her nap today, I grabbed my paints.

Yep! Totally CRAVING painting right now.

I didn't really know what I wanted to paint, but I knew I just wanted to have some fun and just get out my "to-do" list day for a bit.

Whenever I'm stuck, I always go to my #1 calming doodle...curlycue lines.

I actually painted the entire canvas orange before painting the lines (that's what I love about painting...you can paint over ANYTHING!!).

Then I played with purple, yellow, white and pink.

Then added some purple and blue in the background and then I just couldn't.stop.PLAYING (I love it when that happens!).

I kept blending and blending and blending.

I could have sat there all day and just PLAYED!

Some of the colors began to look muddy, but I really didn't care.

Am I going to sell this?  No.

Am I going to get graded on this? No.

Is it the most BEAUTIFUL painting you've ever seen?  No.

Do I just want to create some calm in my mama life?  YES! :)

And that's exactly what I did.  I melted my to-do list away while painting (just a little bit and it felt oh-so-GOOD!).

It's like I'm reading a romance novel - you know, the kind that you just can't put down and you feel like you've checked out of your life and into someone else's fictional life for a minute.

That's how I feel...like time stands still.

No worries. No stress.

Just fun!

Toward the end, I felt like it kinda represented a tree in a way, which I thought was pretty cool.

I might have to do this one again and call it my calming tree painting.  Yeah...I like that! :)  My own personal 'calming tree.'

A great visual for sure...and a much needed one, too! :)

OH, and I realized something while typing this...doing this is helping me to stop and create the most amazing self-care for myself during C's nap time.  Usually I'm trying to catch up on EVERYTHING - laundry, cleaning, email, blogging, editing, phone calls...you name it!

Those 2 hours (if it even lasts that long!) are a multi-tasking nightmare for my brain.

Now that I've begun this, I'm allowing myself a little more ME time during her nap, which is creating more calm in how I think and how I handle what's to come after she wakes up.  A major plus in my book!! :)

So...until next time...

{life IS colorful}
