My Life On Water!

My Life On Water!

Before becoming a mom, I was glued to my water bottle. Things have changed since having Camille. I fill up my water glass or mug and take a few sips and the next thing I know it's been an hour or so and I can't find my water. Does this happen to you?

Oh man! I tell ya! Water has been my best friend since I can remember. I gave up soda when I was in 8th grade. Why? I was getting headaches and the caffeine kept me up all night. I decided to stop drinking it and it helped, greatly! The times that I did drink soda were back in college when I was hungover. My body didn't want anything to do with water. Weird, right!?  You think that would be the best thing.  Nope! I only wanted soda and gatorade.

These days, if I feel like having a soda, I'll buy natural Root Beer. And, when Damian does go out for a soda run,  I ALWAYS tell him to buy  regular, not diet! The reason? They make it with real sugar, instead of artificial sugar! Yes, there are other ingredients I don't like too much, but hey, life is meant for living and having fun. And over here, that means enjoying real, high quality foods and not denying ourselves. :)

So, yeah, my love for water has taken the back seat since becoming a mom. I always joke now because I know for sure this is a mommy thing. Because of this, I had to come up with some ways to get my daily water in.  Overall, I just feel better when I'm loaded with fresh, filtered water. I have more energy and feel refreshed. I can always tell when I don't get enough because my energy dips and my mouth is dry and my body is CRAVING it!

Wanna hear something funny?  When I look at my struggles right now, it reminds me of when I was teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. I never had time to drink, so I'd gulp down as much as I could on my commute to work (um, yeah, I'm not a coffee drinker...never have been), then go to the bathroom as many times as I could before the students came in for the day.

During their break for PE , Art, etc., I down some, and then at lunch I drink more (if I had time during those 2o minutes) and then I'd worry that I might have to go the bathroom while teaching.  Oh, the horror! Ha!  Once the students left for the day, I'd dive into my thermos like it was a swimming pool. :)  I'd  drink more once I was home (is this starting to sound like I have a water addiction? LOL!)  and then I'd be up all night going to the bathroom. Not good!

Well, now I don't have to worry about leaving my students to go to the bathroom, but I do end up drinking this same way at times while taking care of Camille and I tend to drink a lot after she's gone to bed.  And, that's really not good because this mommy needs her sleep!

Here is an example of my life with water during a 24 hour day:

  • Before going to bed, I fill up a glass with water and place by my bed (I prefer room temperature water when I first wake up) I then fill up another glass AND a water thermos and leave in the kitchen so it's ready for me during morning activities with Camille.
  • Before I eat breakfast, I fill up another glass of water and add lemon to it to help detox my body from my night's sleep (so good for you!).
  • Every time I give Camille her milk throughout the day, I make sure to stop and drink my water.
  • When Camille is eating breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner, I make sure I'm drinking my water.
  • I make sure to bring my water thermos everywhere I go: gym rompers, grocery store, library, doctors office...everywhere!
  • If I get bored with plain water and I want to spice it up, I'll add in lemon, orange, cucumber, mint or goji berries.
  • Sometimes I'll leave glasses filled throughout the house and then I'll see them and drink up (Damian hates this! Hehe! But, hey, a mommy's gotta do what a mommy's gotta do!).
  • If I'm working out, I make sure to have water by my side.
  • When I take Camille and Rusty on a walk, I make sure to bring my water bottles.
  • If I've done yoga, I make sure to drink again because it helps detox toxins that were released.
  • And then lastly, I make sure to stop drinking water by 7:30 pm.  Sometimes it may be 8:30 pm, depending on the time Camille is down for the night.
  • And I do it all over again!  (Well, at least I try to) :)

So those are some ways I try to stay hydrated throughout the day.  I never, ever thought I'd struggle with this.  But, I definitely do. Every day is different, and I never know how it will go with my little one. I can't even tell you how many times I've taken one sip and then a few hours have passed and I'm just realizing how thirsty I am. Dangit! :) The days that I'm really on this, I feel SO good.  The days that I'm off, not so good.  I just make sure to pick up where I left off (that could be finding a glass half full and finishing it - ha!)  and not beating myself up for dehydrating myself. :) I'm a mommy and I'm awesome! :)

If your energy seems low, check in and see how hydrated you are.  If you don't like plain water, add in some lemon, orange or even a splash of pomegranate juice. It really makes water fun!  Want to change up your soda routine?  Try adding in some yummy flavored sparkling water!

Do you have any ideas on how you get your water in on a daily basis  Please share!  I love hearing what you have to say!
