{Slow Down Mama!} Washing Dishes

Guess whose been washing her dishes SUPER fast? Yep! You guessed right! That would be me! Ha! I realized the other day that I zoom through dish-washing and dish-loading (gotta love having a dishwasher).  I wash dishes ALL day (well, it seems like it anyway).  It's no wonder I'm trying to get them done as fast as I can.  It's not all that fun.

But you wanna know something?  When I wash dishes I'm no where NEAR being present them. I'm in my head BIG TIME! While I'm washing and loading, I'm thinking about everything BUT the dishes, the soap and the sponge.  I don't even know how I've been doing this without getting hurt.  Ha!  I've decided that I must slow down while doing this.

Here's what I've been doing:

I began to notice the bubbles (like I do when I'm taking a bubble bath) as they lay gently on the water and the dishes and how they reflect colors of the rainbow. When I scrub utensils or a pot or a plate, I pay attention to how they look and feel: I notice the colors, the roughness, the smoothness.  When I load the dishes in the dishwasher, I take my time to make sure they fit in a good spot instead of just quickly throwing them in any spot that will do.  And, lastly, I feel the warmth of the water on my skin.

Once I began to slow down while doing the dishes, I noticed that I have more appreciation for having a sink, warm water and dishes to eat with and eat on.  All which are essential to family meals and good wholesome nourishment.  And, I actually like washing dishes now...who knew!  :)

Do you wash your dishes quickly, too?  Would love for you to join me as I continue this slow down tip!  Let me know how it works for you! I'll keep ya updated with how I'm doing, too!
